Hacked MySpace Account ~ Getting No Help!!

Current Mood: PISSED OFF!!

Some jerk hacked my MySpace account sometime last week. I discovered it last Wednesday when I logged in. I was still on pain meds from my surgery on Monday so I couldn't think clearly on how I should handle the problem.

I had received a few e-mails from people telling me they were receiving strange messages from me so I knew something was up when I logged in. I was able to e-mail a few people back to let them know that it appeared someone had compromised my account. I think some of the e-mails made it to my friends, but then I got a message stating that my account had been frozen until I changed my password. I changed my password, however I was blocked from posting a bulletin to let everyone know my account had been hacked.

The next morning I logged in my account, and had a message from Tom that my account been hacked and would be frozen until I changed my password. I changed it again, and now I can't log into my account at all.

Since I was spaced out on pain medication, I thought maybe I didn't remember the password I used the second time I changed it. I have sent several requests to have my password e-mailed to me. Haven't received it yet.

I have also contacted customer service 5 times since last Thursday asking for help with my account. No response.

I have over 450 business contacts/friends on my account. I hate to have to start all over setting up a new account.

It sure would be nice to get some help from MySpace customers service!!!

On a side note, my birthday so far has sucked. I had planned on spending the day shopping for new clothes, but since I'm still not feeling like myself yet that little plan didn't pan out. It also rained most of the day. Ick!

But.... I'm 35 and alive so I have tons to be thankful, which I am!

What happened is this:
The email that you got from Tom was fake. When you clicked the link in the email to go change your password, it took you to a dummy site that was setup to look legitimate. Then when you entered in your password, they had it directly from you. The next morning when you couldn't log in, it was because you never really changed your password to begin with. No online service, such as myspace or your bank, will ever notify you by email that your account is frozen until you change your password.

See: Phishing.

Yeah, I know about the fake e-mails. I'm not sure how someone hacked my account, but I guess it isn't uncommon for that to happen on MySpace. I realized it had happened after I logged into my account and had several messages from friends letting me know that someone was sending spam messages. I changed my password, but I was blocked from posting a bulletin to my friends. The next morning I logged back into my account with my new password and had a message from Tom that my account had been compromised. I changed the password again and then I could no longer log in. Turns out that I wrote down the wrong password. Hey, I was taking lots of medication. LOL! After 5 days and repeated requests, MySpace finally e-mailed the correct password.
